The Cat & Fiddle Pub & Restaurant
The Cat & Fiddle is a British style pub and restaurant
combined with a Balinese outdoor setting, and charming Balinese waitresses.
The menu features Irish & English specialities, grills, Indonesian,
and vegetarian meals. There is an ever popular children’s menu and
every Sunday there is a traditional English roast.
Set up and opened in March 2000 by Mark Wilson OBE, his daughter Karen
Anjasmara, and son Robin Wilson, the Cat & Fiddle moved to its new
location at Jl. Cemara, Sanur on 1st July 2004.
Mark trained at Courtfield Hotel & Catering College, Blackpool, served
as a Purser Catering with the Union Castle Mail Steamship Company, and
spent 17 years as an airline catering executive with the Dairy Farm Group
of companies in Hong Kong and Indonesia. During his career he has set
up and run four international flight kitchens in various parts of S.E.
Asia and five restaurants, including The Java Restaurant in Sowerby Bridge,
West Yorkshire.
He first arrived in Indonesia in 1971 and nowadays, in between his duties
as British Honorary Consul for Bali and Lombok, he oversees the food production
at The Cat and Fiddle Restaurant and plays the accordion with his friends,
usually accompanied by brother Phil on vocals, guitar, concertina, and
double bass.
Mark inherited culinary skills from both his grandmothers. Grandma Spencer
was a renowned baker in East Lancashire, while Granny Duffy came from
Dublin and wielded a hefty rolling pin, hence the Irish influence in Mark’s
menus.
Various events are held throughout the year at The Cat & Fiddle; in
particular a Burns Night supper, St. Patrick's Day celebration, St. George's
Day, St. Andrew's Day, St. David’s Day, and of course Christmas
and New Year when a Scottish piper marches in at the stroke of midnight.
Christmas Day lunch is always a full house at the Cat & Fiddle so
book early.
The weekly programme includes our famous Live Irish Music session every
Tuesday evening, when the musicians sit round and amuse themselves and
visitors are welcome to join in. This is not a concert and we play what
we like whether you like it or not! There is live music by local artists
on most evenings featuring acoustic fiddle, guitar and accordion.
